You may have heard by now that Tia Mowry (Melanie) of BET’s popular sitcom The Game was fired from the show a few weeks ago and Pooch Hall (Derwin) is said to have been so upset that he reportedly walked out on his own.
BET released an official statement confirming that the cute onscreen couple won’t be returning, stating:
After five seasons on The Game, Pooch Hall and Tia Mowry will not return as regular cast members on season six on BET Networks.
As a result of Pooch’s involvement on a new project, BET is in the process of reworking the casting and storyline of the show. That said, we hope both Pooch and Tia will make several guest appearances.
While we will miss the incredible adventures of Melanie and Derwin on The Game, we appreciate all of their hard work, the laughs and wish them both the best on their future endeavors. (source)
In the finale, it was clear that the couple could possible return at some point. But BET is currently seeking new talent to fill both Tia and Pooch’s shoes.

According to a online spoilers, BET will be replacing Derwin and “girl Melanie” ‘with a younger cast member modeled after Keshia Knight-Pulliam.
Producers are said to be seeking “a new female actress to join the cast in the regular role of Kiera, a 20-year-old former child star who has been in the spotlight since she was five years old and starring on a “Cosby” style sitcom”.
According to the casting call, “she’s bright and charming, but struggling into transitioning into a grown-up career”. (does that description ring any bells to you?)
But wait… there’s more! Another addition will be the newbie’s new boo…
Kiera isn’t the only newbie in town! Another series regular will be hired to play Bryce “The Blueprint” Westbook – a #1, Ivy League draft pick running back who breaks every “dumb athlete” stereotype. He’s not only got a Heisman Trophy, but he’s usually the smartest guy in the room — which sets his new teammates on edge.
Sounds like Derwin and Melanie are being replaced by a younger sleeker version of themselves. This should be interesting.
No Derwin… ??? No Melanie… ??? No Brit Bratt… ??? No Kelly Pitts…??

Bet knows that changing any shows of that caliber where fans have been watching the struggles, tears, and joy of one couple for years (it seems) will result in the loss of your old viewers. That is why they hope they make guest appearances, some of the faithful viewers will watch as long as they Derwin and Melanie might be on there. But how you gonna fire the girl and then hope she make a guest appearance. Black folks I tell ya. The show might pick up some younger viewers but inorder to keep their mind occuppied and entertained, the show would have to become a hot-drama-filled mess. So nope I will not be watching, unless Derwin comes back with his shirt off, some baby oil, rose petels..(pinches myself..I’m up now)

Go to BET its guaranteed to be the death of you… After all the hard work the fans did of bringing the show back, BET scaled down their pay, wouldn’t even pay enough for the character Kelly to remain but then they bring in all these celebrity guests, use their BET talent(Terrance J.) on a few shows, but don’t want to give the stars of the show thats its modeled after a raise. WTF! I have never seen a show with not one but both of the main characters are gone, this is not a soap opera you can’t just think we’ll easily forget. What they should have done was give them a proper series finale and let Pooch and Tia end it there, because going on without them is just plain dumb. I know Akil productions signed a contract with BET but I know they never expected them to axe their main characters, its not even worth watching after this, BET get it together.

Im from south africa firing melanie and derwin really not cool. I agree with the other fans without them just can the show and leave us with pleasant memories. Its like girlfriends it just disappear on thin air. Mara and Brock Akil in SA we like your shows keep up the good work dont spoil it
BET needs to do better. People are constantly leaving BET. First Free & AJ, The Monique Show, Terance & Rocsi and now Tia & Pooch. Are you serious BET? First I want to say I didn’t know they fired Tia. That was stupid….. Second I have been watching this show from the start and I agree with everyone here who said that they should have let Melanie and Derwin finsih out the show with Season 5 being the series finale. I did not wait all this time for this show to come back just to see what happened to Jason’s steriod taking,cheap, egotistical behind(who is not even a football player anymore). Nor for Malik, to see how many more woman they could have him sleep with before he caught something or had a baby. Tasha’s stereotyped black girl personality was getting a little old at the end of season 3 and Kelly… her and Jason were either getting divorced or back together (Yawn). But all of that drama together with Melanie and Derwin to keep everything grounded and leveled out…makes sense. Expecially with Derwin and his religious self. They were like the go to couple for a while there until a little drama of their own came into play. But all in all I can’t speak for anyone else but I won’t be wating the show anymore. I understand that the producers have a contract with BET but… I don’t. I enjoyed the run while it lasted but now for me it has ended.:(

The show will not last. You cant replace the two main characters of the show! Lauren London cant act. She is just a pretty face like Boris Kodjo….neither can act. I’m starting to lose interest in BET. Everytime you get a hold of an excellent black show…you destroy like you did with the show…..Girlfriends.
The new show is OK but it feels just like that…a new show and I often forget about it. I never forgot to watch Derwin and Melanie. They felt so real, innocent and down home and I think everyone could relate to them.
It is ok to bring in newbies but why fix it when it was working…for us, your public/customers. Keep the newbies but PLEASE bring back Derwin and Melanie.
