“We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Whitney. This is an unimaginable tragedy and we will miss her terribly. We appreciate the outpouring of love and support from her fans and friends. The Houston Family”
Houston was born in Newark and raised in East Orange, and while many have said she never forgot her Jersey roots, her Atlanta ties were just as long.
Whitney and ex-husband Bobby Brown shared a home in the city and Houston still owns a townhome located in Alpharetta (an Atlanta suburb).
In fact, rumor has it that Houston’s daughter Bobbi Kristina, 18, is said to have been living there off and on unsupervised.
The two cities were each close to Whitney’s heart and the family is reportedly torn over where she should be laid to rest…
Both Cissy Houston and Dionne Warwick prefer that Whitney be buried in Atlanta, near the home where her daughter Bobbi Kristina resides.
They also believe Atlanta is the place Whitney enjoyed the most and had the fondest memories.
But according to TMZ, the rest of the family believes Whitney should buried in Newark, where she was born, and subsequently discovered at a local Baptist church.
Houston’s mother, Grammy-award winning gospel singer Cissy Houston, led the musical program at the 112-year-old church back in the day, while Whitney’s cousin, Dionne Warwick, also sang in its choir.

We’re told Cissy’s position is succinct: “Michael Jackson did not want to be buried in New Jersey, and Whitney did not want to be buried in New Jersey.”
We’re told Cissy and Dionne caved, after other family members convinced them New Jersey is where the world will remember her most.
Whitney has homes in LA, NJ and ATL, and lately spent most of her time in California.
As for her daughter Bobbi Kristina, a source revealed to HollywoodLife that she spent most of her time in Atlanta… alone.
“Bobbi has been living alone for years. Whitney basically bought the home for Bobbi after they were kicked out of another prestigious neighborhood down the road.
While Whitney’s ex, Bobby Brown, recently left his New Edition reunion tour to be by his daughter’s side during this trying time, many friends of the family are said to be worried that 18 year old Bobbi Kristina will be even more alone when she returns home to Atlanta.

ATL… Ain’ nobody going to NEWARK
isnt her mother here too?
Funeral in Newark, burial in ATL…
This is why I believe in preplanning.
If her Moma n Auntie are the two who cared for her y n the hell do the other family members get a say. ATL shawty
only one person decides..that mommy..newark..it is..all ready being plan..
The media needs to stop reporting lies! the decision had already been made….her body is in Newark!
Right Tracy! I saw that on the news this morning. And who the hell cares if nobody goes to Newark. Shit. Everybody who needs to be in Newark will be in Newark. Which is her daughter, Bobby and Miss Cissy. I wouldn’t to be buried in ATL, the city that laughed at my ass the whole time I lived there. Eli Manning and I’ll pass!
we all didnt laugh at her but i feel ya
Atlanta shouldn’t even be choice in someone being buried or a funeral. She is from East Orange/Newark, New Jersey and that is where it should be regardless, of any justifications.
Wherever Miss Cissy wants to bury her daughter is where it should be. Her and Bobbi Christina are the first people who have any say so.
Where ever her mother and daughter decides is fine with me. They will have whitneys best intrest at heart. Im surprised Whitney didnt have all her wishes pre arranged as huge of a star she was? Hummmm, wow!!!
It should be her Mother’s decision. No one should question her reasons or motivations for it. Her Mother and daughter were her next of Kin. I was of the understanding that the memorial would be in NJ and her body would be interred in GA. (I was born and raised in ATL, I now live elsewhere) However, my memorial arrangements have been communicated to all that love me. That is why HER MOTHER needs to be the one to make the decision without “pressure”, influence, of others. Mama always knows best. Whatever it is!
Didn’t she have a WILL?!! Geeez
There is nothing wrong with an 18yrs old living alone. She is not a 12 yr old. There are plenty of kids that age that live alone. 18 is legal age, so nothing was done wrong. It so mind boggling that people are looking for ways to scrutinize this women and her family, its really sad. No one lives there life perfect, we all do things we regret and we all make mistakes, get off the women’s back. I think she should be buried in new jersey, because that is where she was raised and grew up, her life began there and that’s where her life should end. Her mother and family also live there, her resting place should be near them.
What the heck does Jersey have to do with Michael Jackson? He was not born there
Y’all really need to close down this damn site with all the inconsistencies you have been reporting. I guess much if the other things I have read here have been untrue as well. YALL NEED A DOOVER BIG TIME!!
Her daughter is of age, & unless she had a living will her daughter has the final say so, & I’m sure the decision will be made by Bobbi Kristina & Ms. Cissy. Why yall have to make it seem like Black flock can’t get along even in death? Smh, I’m starting to believe you not straight outta ATL, but straight off of Massa plantation. Crab!!!!
Hey great reporting ATLnn! Bottom line, unless there express instructions in a will or relayed before death, the burial is up to the family wherever the consensus lies. In the end it is only the family who have to deal with the details of markers and maintenance. Rest in peace, GOd have reclaimed one of his.
The decision should have been up to her mother & her daughter. I wouldn’t care what the family members wanted me to do w/my "daughter or mother." It doesn’t matter where her body is, her spirit will be everywhere. And this is why ppl should have a living will. You make the decision of what YOU want done when you’re not able to speak. My mom has already told my brother & I what she wants us to do with her body once she passes.
@ FaSho…thank you…I was thinking the same thing. What the fluck Michael Jackson got to do with this? This is when you clearly know that the "source" is a liar. ATLien…do better.

^^^ Agreed bring in some new talent to help. Sheesh.
What the newspapers are reporting in Jersey: The owner of the Whigham Funeral Home in Newark said Tuesday that Houston’s funeral will be held at noon at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, the Associated Press reports. The funeral home said that no wake would be held and that there would be no public memorial at Newark’s Prudential Center, the sports arena that the family had discussed as a possible venue.
@ Tracy…u are absolutely right! The media just lying. I was out there last night when they brought her in and she will be buried here in Westfield NJ where her father was buried. There was never any talk of being buried in Atlanta..smh!
if Whitney’s mother want her to be in Atlanta, that is where she should be. the people in Newark have been going crazy mad, that she was being sent to Atlanta at first. some guy from NJ was arguing with my sister about Atlanta wants everything, but guess what brotha- you are here, so shut up. Her mother and daughter knew her best, so they should make the decision.
I lost my father in 2009, we had a funeral in NY , and we had a funeral in VA. The funeral in NY was for his friends that could not come to VA, and since most of our family is from VA that is where we had his homegoing, I feel her mother and daughter should have the say so, people should respect what they want, maybe that is what they want is to have her close to them. I am so SAD for the lost of Whitney, and to the family dont worry GOD will get you threw this. GOD BLESS your family.
First of all this is another report from TMZ, enough said!!!!
I thought that neighborhood was Alpharetta when I looked at Bobbi Kris’ Twitter page. And she does seem alone. My heart breaks for her… I wish her the best. Lord have mercy.
Let this woman be…..Where ever her burial site will be is the family and close relatives concerns. None of us in cyber world is attending anyway. While America is engulfed with the death of Whitney Houston, there were 82 people in Mali that have been the victims of summary executions ( on spot, no trial) at this moment but the news or blogs aren’t reporting on that. We’re so disengaged with what’s going on in other parts of the world because we’re so mesmerized by irrepressible issues. Some times one wonders why the star that seem to have so much for themselves fall into depression, drugs or suicide, maybe in their conscience they know that they’re feeding this immoral duty of entertaining the masses for ?. It’s the oldest trick, it’s even in the bible of the sooth sayers and the guy that was battling Moses by turning his cane into a snake, in the end it’s all trickery to keep them paying attention to the left hand so they don’t see the right.
yeah, yeah I know this is a blog about celebrity gossip and so forth and the host has no moral obligation to enlighten us on such topics, but be damned don’t it make you wonder?
Why does an 18 year old need to be supervised?
I wish this would go away pictures of things on her table someone snapped a picture of the tub. It’s just an awful mess when Kris’s well being should be at focus. Just sad sad stuff.
Her hometown I believe is Newark and I dont believe they ever mentioned ATL on the news ever
they say..smh..boo bye..
I wad thinking the same thing
The funeral will be held Saturday in Newark, NJ @ her childhood church, she will be buried in the Cemitary where her father is.
New Hope Baptist Church @Noon Saturday..
I would hope at 18 you are out on your own you are considered an adult…smh what they think she still need a nanny. At least we know she will be able to live and functionon her own…
And??????? SMFH
Stop the bullshit!
I always think that people should be buired in the most convenient place for the people who are still living and would be visiting the grave most often. She should be buried wherever her mother and daughter want her buried.
And this is news??..oh ok..NEXT!!!
LAST TIME I REMEMBER BACK-N-THA-DAY, A YOUNG LADY IS GROWN AT 18, SO WHATS THE PROBLEM, LETS NOT LOSE FOCUS WITH THIS PETTY BS, HER MOTHER JUST DIED, GIVE HER RESPECT AND PRIVACY PLEASE!!!!!!
And what’s the point, last time I checked. At the age of 18 you were grown/legal
Just because you are legal don’t mean you are grown. Hell, its against the law for her to drink but she is supposed to be grown? Come now people lets’ not be swayed and confused by what the law says. Was a time when the law said it was ok to own black people.
Let me contain myself. Back to the topic at hand. It is Cissy and Bobbi Kristina’s choice in where their daughter/mother should be buried and if they want her in Newark then that is where Whitney shall be. For all we know, Whitney may have had a will and requested to be buried in New Jersey.
Personally, I think people in ATL want her buried there as a tourist attraction kind of like Elvis Presley and Graceland.
i hate the drama that builds up with one passes away. y on earth is it an issue where she is buried. like they gon b at the gravesite every day. i think she should be buried in ATL. That’s where her daughter is. They should think about it 2, not every body gets a proper burial.
i hope the immediate fam divy up the finances properly. no Bobby, Dionne, and other outside sources should be looking 4 handouts!
Funerals are something most family members don’t discuss. But in my crazy family, I have been to at least 50 before the age of 21. My aunt 82 years old passed away in nursing home. Get this my cousin called me to say @2am to go say goodbye to my aunt bc she will be cremated in tha morning. What the what No funeral no goodbyes, what about her kids in different states were they notified the questions I screamed at my cousin, who was not her daughter.
Of course there was a funeral , the grown kids wasnt notified, she was cremated in which she did not want. Her husbands ashes were lost. My cousin and her dad( his sister) left with the death certificate in hand before services were over. I have her ashes waiting for warmer weather or to locate her kids. My cousin informed me "Always Bs when there is a funeral", not in my own family there is not.
Maybe Whitney informed her daughter how she wanted last days, just like my aunt informed me and not my cousin. My aunt didn’t want to be cremated.
I feel that it is up to the immediate family. Will the other family memebers visit and send flowers on the regular. If she spent most of her life in the ATL, that’s where she should be buried.
She would probably want to be buried close to her father. Probably bought family plots when he passed.
I just want to say i love her music the impact shes has om my life has been empowering and spiritual. her voice and songs have been a catalyst for growth and change.I have struggled as she has.
I cant begin to know what shes been through personally and professionally.Miss Whitney Houston, Know that you are loved. We will miss you dearly. With much love and respect.
A Fan.
Ppl are crazy! 18 and unsupervised…..lol

Whitney’s "home going" was well received by God hLoved himself and I believe she was there also along with Jesus…she (Whitney) would be pleased with all the people who cherished her life in their memories of her and her God given Gift…"The Voice". RIP Whitney…Be comforted family…"Yes Jesus Loves You"
