James DeBarge, the drug addicted ex-husband of Janet Jackson, appeared on ‘Dr. Drew’s Lifechangers’ alongside two of his troubled siblings, Bunny and Randy, seeking some life changing therapy to help deal with their drug addiction and family issues.
James recounts how he was once suicidal and reveals that Janet’s big brother Michael Jackson talked him down from a roof…
I was going to jump and everyone was losing it… He [Michael] was the only one not freaking out!
He seemed to be familiar with my pain… He knew I needed someone to talk to, so he was that ear. We just talked all night and I forgot that I was even on the roof and that I was going to jump.”
The musical family is no stranger to problems. El DeBarge (the most successful of the group) just recently returned to the music scene after abruptly leaving his comeback tour to check into rehab.

DeBarge were once arguably the most “beautiful” singing group around and now the entire family looks battered and worn from years of addiction and abuse. My heart goes out to them.
At the end of the show, all three chose to go into treatment immediately, BUT James seemed very shakey on his decision. In Dr. Drew’s update of their progress, he stated Randy and Bunny were still in rehab but James had left the facility after being there for only a few hours.

Wow. Dude looks FUCKKED up, with the crack mouth and all. The whole DeBarge family is on drugs it seems. El can’t even sit still long enough to make a song before he’s going back to rehab and James is really fukked up…isn’t he the one who is always in the crack houses and looking for bottles to see for money along with ol girl who used to play on that sitcom with LL Cool J back in the day? Damn….crack is evil.

Oooooooh dat Dr.Drew show was HARD to watch yesterday. My God that famoly is mess up. They done smoke away all their “good hair and light skin away” Everyone was looking RUFF. They fooled the hell out of Kathy Hughs TV ONE UNSUNG SHOW. Everyone one of them is a addict

Yes it is sad the downfall that this musical family has taken. I’m bewildered at how two families could be so different. None of those Jacksons, save for MJ, had drug problems. Even MJ managed to keep his career in tact despite being addicted to prescription drugs and cosmetic surgery.
I think it is because there was no father in the home and the mother they had was weak. It is my understanding their father was abusive and the mother Eterlene left when they were all very young. Not saying she should have stayed but perhaps she should have remarried or joined a church or something I don’t know. All those Debarge men messed up their own families too. El has a gang of kids and only has a relationship with maybe two. His youngest got fostered out. So sad.
