Usher Raymond became somewhat of an anomaly earlier today (August 3, 2011) when he was spotted out in New York City pushing his two young sons in a stroller.
As you know, Black men aren’t supposed to be good fathers to their kids because they’re all locked up in jail, or currently dodging child support authorities (hence the point & stares from the woman in the photo).
But Usher totally debunked that myth by displaying all the fine qualities of a dutiful Dad. Usher strolled leisurely, enjoying the day with his two boys, Naviyd, 2, and Usher V (Cinco), 3… no nanny in sight.
I, personally, refuse to give Usher props for doing what he’s SUPPOSED to do, but I’m glad he’s being photographed doing it.
Why do Black fathers get such a bad rap anyways? I know quite a few who are stand up dudes…

Cause he’s got enough money to be! .. and Black fathers get a bad rep cause they want it!
Unfortunately, being a good father in the Black community is the “exception” rather than the “rule.” It’s sad but true. There are some exceptional fathers out there that will go thru hell and high water to be in their child’s life. And guess what? Sometime the baby mama make him go thru hell and high water, too! Women sometime play a major role in making it very difficult for men to be an involved father. Others are deadbeats and deadbeats by choice. *shrugs shoulders*
Yo STFA why cant u give props to someone who is doing a good job, even if thats what their supposed to do? Positive affirmation is a good thing.
…for regular mere mortals, i would say yes: THAT’s exactly what he’s supposed to do. no medals or special achievement ribbons. but usher, because of his fame and notoriety (mostly positive), he’s doing exactly what he should be doing by setting a good and fine example for other men and women. the impact of those pictures of him and his son will be felt in communities everywhere. as for why black fathers get such a bad rap, it’s probably because so many of them deserve it by virtue of how they behave vis-a-vis their children and how they simply fail to step and live up to their responsibilities…! sad, but true, right?
Have you seen the slow trading roll, of women leaving their children with the child father? My props are only for women that has been takein up the slack for men for years.
YAY MY MEN DONT NEED A NANNY TO BE WITH THEM 24/7 HE ONLY NEED HIS BODYGUARD WITH HIM
I Guess You Could Challenge That Question Both Ways, Why Should A Women Get Props For Doing Her Job, She Bought The Child Into This World So Thats Her Responsibility’ The Guys Im In Association With Are Great Fathers So The bad Rap Must Be For The People Who Laid Down With Deadbeats From The Beginning So That Says A Lot About Thier Standards’ This Is The Norm Where Im At Not The Exception’
Well that’s great, @StevenlovinglifelockhartLockhart! But statistically, that’s not the way the ball bounces, otherwise, we would not be having this conversation. As far as your deadbeat comment, no one should have to take the blame for another person not stepping up and handling their responsibility. You can have all the standards and requirements under the sun and still have someone balk on their responsibilities as a parent.
@Stevenlovinglifelockhart Lockhart: i agree with you. it’s a bitter pill for a lot of women to swallow. we’ve been so accustomed to beating up on the “some fathers” for “falling-down”, we’ve actually neglected the role of “some mothers” for failing to uphold their end of the bargain in the family “equation”. seems to me there’s plenty of blame to go around. progress might be made when “some women” start moving away form that awful refrain that the don’t “need a man to raise” their children. in view of the slow-motion disaster that’s befallen black american family life for over the past 50 years, the continued insistence of some black women to claim that a man is not a necessary prerequisite for a successful nuclear family unit (and all that that entails) is truly tragic.
2 reasons
1. sadly a lot of black males become fathers way
before their ready.
2. To many brothers didn’t have a father growing up to teach them how to be a good father
Side note… So untrue that most black men are bad fathers but media types always seem to find the hood rat types who got like 6 kids by 4 babby daddies and talking bout her baby daddy aint sh**. Because a rat says a man is the father dosent make it so. That is all
