I guess it’s official. Beyonce is back and she’s brought the controversy with her… just in time for Black History Month!
Bey’s got the world in a rage this week over a “blackface” photo shoot taken for the 90th-birthday issue of L’Officiel, a French fashion magazine.
The mag features Bey in an African-themed photo shoot, which is meant to be a tribute to musician-activist Fela Kuti.
Beyonce volunteered to have her skin darkened for the shoot, and the magazine called it a return to the singer’s African roots.
Her newly darkened skintone will only be displayed inside the magazine and not on the cover.
However… the cover of the mag is getting buzz as well, with some stating that Bey is looking unusually pale…
The cover featuring Beyonce seemed to have swung the other way. Beyonce is almost unrecognizable to me, as her skin color has once again been manipulated by magazine editors so as not to offend their mostly white female audience. ~ BrownSista
I’m gonna have to disagree with BrownSista on the cover manipulation. Beyonce was looking mighty Caucasian-ish during the Grammy’s [PHOTOS] and I even commented on her transition to the fairer race in those photos taken during Kelly Rowland’s 30th birthday celebration.

Maybe it’s her new lighter hair color… or maybe it’s the lighting. All I know is… that Blackface stunt proves Beyonce’ is officially on some other sh*t.

What do you think of Beyonce’s decision to agree to darken her skin tone?

Most pple would c this as an insult but i call it”ART” lol….that’s what the country is all about freedom of expression gotta love it or hate it…that what make this country so great.
She’s so damn clueless. And furthermore, she is THE LAST person I would think of to honor Kuti…oh, wait, nevermind her husband is involved with that play…always promoting something.
Everybody knows her pressed ass would sell her own mother for some attention. First its a "break-up" and now this. #FAIL
Great my ass! Matter fact, they can kiss it, all 42 in of it
what ticks me off the most as someone of Nigerian heritage is that they figure this is how to pay tribute to Fela. Fela was as light as Beyonce used to be and in Nigeria and the continent of Africa we have various shades of black. This whole shoot is bloody ignorant and honestly if they really wanted to pay tribute to Fela we have plenty of Nigerian models walking the catwalks around the world. Even the clothing is not even Nigerian or African for that matter! The cover is Gucci and the white one is Viktor & Rolf so Bey needs to STOP!
And before anyone says I’m "hating" I’m a fan of beyonce but I will call her out when she’s acting silly
And lastly thanks for the link love Michelle
@rikky, on the flip side, i’d have to agree with u.
*files nails* O_| *waves* hi everyone.

i thought she was already black?
I see that Pierre Delacroix is back from the grave and not only does his spirit take on male form. This is a goddamn shame – how dare you think to "pay tribute" to Fela Kuti, by wearing BLACKFACE!!!! Goddamn! I mean, Hattie, Stepin’, and Mantan didn’t have much of a choice back in the day, but today, there’s NO excuse for this shit! If this was a Satire of the racism in the modeling industry I could understand, but there is not a damn thing satirical about this.
I’m putting in a call to the D.R.O.P. Squad cause her and her I’m never apologizing for being a former drug dealer-husband need to get D.R.O.P.ped.
Thanks for the post ATL!
L’OFFICIEL is very proud to present its March issue featuring Beyoncé in African-inspired dresses and jewelry by top designers, including Gucci, Azzedine Alaia, Fendi, Pucci, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Rodarte, Dolce & Gabbana, Cartier and Lanvin. Designer Tina Knowles, who is also Beyoncé’s mother, created a one of a kind couture piece. The designs are all reflective of the African influence on fashion this season. Miss Knowles poses with royal allure. A queen, a goddess, Beyoncé is a bombshell beauty with a divine voice. We’re thrilled she’s opening a season of celebrating the 90th anniversary of L’Officiel de la Mode. The series was conceived as using art and fashion in paying homage to African queens.
Beyoncé mentioned the artist Fela Kuti in the interview as one of her musical inspirations. It was later misquoted as the inspiration for the shoot. We would like to clarify that it is not the case. As for the artistic makeup, the inspiration came from several African rituals during which paint is used on the face. We find the images beautiful and inspiring.
L’Officiel would like to thank Beyoncé for her outstanding contribution to this celebration of African influences in Fashion.
