Atlanta was hit with it’s first major snowstorm of the New Year last night and as I type, the city is covered in about 5 inches of snow (and counting).
Hours before any snow fell, hundreds of flights in and out of Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport were canceled, leaving hundreds of people stranded and sleeping on the airport floor.
By about 5pm Gov. Sonny Perdue declared a State of Emergency for Georgia, ordering all available resources to be ready for action. A little before 8pm, the downtown Atlanta area began getting a steady snowfall and that was all she wrote!

The car above was abandoned near Lenox Square Mall in Buckhead on Sunday, January 9th.
The temperature dropped to about 28 degrees and the snow began to stick, by about 9:45 all lanes of the Downtown Connector southbound were closed at Abernathy Boulevard and University Avenue due to several accidents.
Many activities surrounding the inauguration of Gov. Nathan Deal have also been canceled and most area school systems have already announced closings for Monday as a result of the storm…. so there’s a lot of happy kids running around right now!

WOW! Yall making like 28 degrees is "cold"……Try 14 degrees on your drive into work on the daily. LOL I know yall ATLiens are in utter shock and awe about this! Be safe. LOL
Declared "a state of emergency" for 5"??? ATL yall need to stop. I guess yall not prepared for that amount of snow. But when it snows in places like Nevada and Texas (like it has) you know this world is nearing the end!Yall would have died in the snow we (Wash.,DC) had last year…..up to your hips. I do suggest yall stay insde until they treat the roads to be safe. I wish we had some snow right now….I need a break from work….LOL. It’s cold enough to stay inside though. Wish yall ATL’ers the best.
@DCBound…it snowed in Texas (Dallas) last year (Feb). I flew in for the All-Star Game a day later and you would have thought the world was coming to an end there. Instead of using "salt" to treat the roads, they had to use "sand". But the snow melted so fast they didn’t really have time to react. Then I came home to my usual run of the mill, low temps and knee deep snow as well. LOL The A ain’t ready. LOL

YES!!! Puhlease let it snow in DC. I am ready for the day off!
That’s right, we are not used to the snow because we are in the South. People kill me when they say that’s nothing. To us, it’s a lot. We don’t have enough emergency vehicles while dealing with people not used to driving on ice. SMH!!!
