The Atlanta music scene is reeling over the senseless death of Ashley Jewell. Jewell, known affectionately as “AJ” was involved in a brawl with several men in the parking lot of the “Body Tap” strip club where he was co-owner. He was transported to Piedmont hospital where he subsequently died from severe head injuries.
AJ had received a ton of flack recently after appearing alongside his ex-fiance Kandi Burruss on the 2nd season of Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Atlanta. When it was revealed on the show that he had 6 kids from 4 other women, he wasinstantly labeled a deadbeat dead by online blogs and websites but nothing was farther from the truth. The harsh criticism received during the airing of the show prompted the couple to take an indefinite “hiatus” although Kandi remained active in AJ’s children’s lives. She even gained custody of 2 of his daughters after the break up.
Kandi is understandably devastated after losing both her favorite uncle and the love of her life within days of each other. She hit up twitter page briefly this morning to thank everyone for their supportive words:

I could never n a million years imagine this happening. please pray for AJ’s children. that’s who im the most concerned 4.
im just in one of those moods where i dont wanna talk, i dont wanna b held & told its gonna b ok. i just wanna cry myself 2 sleep, alone.
Questioning of party-goers at the club yielded no definite answers to the beating and the investigation is continuing. My prayers go out to AJ’s children and family members.
*Update 10/03/09 1:23pm * ~ Arrest Made in Death of AJ Jewell:
Atlanta homicide detectives have arrested Fredrick Richardson and charged him with voluntary manslaughter in the beating death of Ashley “AJ” Jewell.
Ashley “A.J.” Jewell, who was engaged to Kandi Burruss until last August, died of massive head injuries he suffered in a “one-on-one” fight in the parking lot of an Atlanta strip bar, the Body Tap Club in the 1200 block of Marietta Boulevard.
Richardson was also hospitalized due to injuries sustained in the fight and is at Grady Memorial Hospital, but will be jailed once released by medical staff. (Source)
This is so sad. Six children are now without a father because some ignorant m***** f***** wanted to kill another man. Not once did they even think about his chidren. I know their azzes knew he had six chidren. I hope AJ’s and Derrion Albert’s deaths will spark a moment and I am down to join. It is time for the Revolution to be televised.
Kandi, I am praying for you, his children and your daughter. I will support you any of stop the violence movement.
Story is reckless. I can’t even imagine how she is feeling right now. Wow. I may have to do a Saturday post about all this damn violence.

Just heard about this death just now. This is very sad news. I feel real bad for Kandi.
I feel so bad! I woke up this morning and saw this and my mouth dropped! I feel so badly for his kids and for Kandi. She has been through the worse lately! I will be praying for his children and family. This is awful!!!!!!
Definitly my prayers go out to his children & Kandi. But I don’t think anyone intended on killing him. I think it’s a fight gone bad. The man arrested is in the hospital from wounds from the fight. The news headlines could just have easily read ‘AJ killed a man in a fight’. I would hardly compare this to the innocent 16 year old beat to death in Chicago. Remember he fought T.I. too but we didn’t care who he was then. SMH. We need to stop fighting amoungst each other seriously.

Well if AJ won’t ******** “Veronica”, the owner of “Body Tap”, then Veronica’s husband wouldn’t have gone beast and killed AJ. That was his own fault. It will turn out to be a heat of passion crime. That’s exactly why you should avoid cheating at all cost, cuz whoever u cheat on will kill you or the one you cheated with when they find out. Look what O.J. Simpson did!

Are you saying that AJ was cheating on Khandi and sleeping with the club owner’s wife? If so, AJ should’ve known better. Still my sincere condolences to the children and Khandi.
aj rest in peace. now that one life was taken and another in jail people when are you going to wake up. here today gone the next day .kandi you be strong because now you have to take care of someone else kids maybe the real parent will think twice like the real baby momma at least be there for the kids. come forward at least help you take care of them. crime on crime dont make you bright its your mind that say i will kill. i know there were at least some by stander there watching and did not help at all it make me sick to hear what happen some one should have broke it up and call the cop them maybe AJ wouldnt be dead.
