Lil Kim Sings With Cyndi Lauper (Video)
Lil Kim teamed up with Cyndi Lauper for a duet of Lauper’s ‘Time After Time” with a sprinkling of Kim’s “Put Your Lighter’s Up”performed in honor of Nelson Mandela during “The Mandela Day Concert – A 46664 Celebration” at Radio City Music Hall. Proceeds from the concert went to support 46664, the humanitarian campaign named after Mandela’s prison ID number.
“Our struggle for freedom and justice was a collaborative effort,” Mandela said in a taped message. “‘Mandela Day’ is no different. It is in your hands to create a better world.”
It was an odd pairing and I, personally, woulda never thought of Kimmie as a singer, but she didn’t do quite as horrible as I would have envisioned. I mean…it’s not something I’d be playing in my headphones but it was definitely entertaining to say the least!

July 21, 2009 @ 1:13 pmLil Kim looking like a respectable woman??? Now that is a first. She looks like a Princess. At least she had sense enough to cover her azz for Mandela.

July 21, 2009 @ 1:17 pmAw hell nawl. Lil Kim singing. That is just as bad as Queen Latifah singing. Female rappers please stick to rapping. And keep your azzes out of movies and leave the real acting to real actresses.

July 23, 2009 @ 1:21 pmOh come on Attorneymom, be nice. That wasn’t too bad and I love Queen Latifah’s jazz CD’s. I mean, for what they give I think there okay. You know, a lot of rappers and hip hop artist’s didn’t make it out of the transition of the 80’s sound into the 90’s. I think Queen and L.L. have done a fantastic job at reinventing themselves. If we think about it, during the last 25 or so years who’s still on the scene in the music industry R&B, Rap, Jazz or even Rock? Not many I can tell y’all that.
Not to mention Mos Def, The Fresh Prince, Common and some of the others who are really good actors and are seriously emersed in their craft. Who would have ever thought a rapper would go on to be the highest paid actor (across the racial board) in history.
It was a strange bed fellow, Kim and Cyndi but I think it worked cause it was them.
Very Cool!
