Usher Responds to Michael Jackson Loss + Usher/MJ Dance Off Flashback (Video)
“This loss has deeply saddened me, with a heavy heart I composed this statement. May God cover you Michael. We all lift your name up in prayer. I pray for the entire JACKSON family particularly Michael’s mother and all his fans that loved him so much. I would not be the artist, performer, and philanthropist I am today without the influence of Michael. I have great admiration and respect for Him and I’m so thankful I had the opportunity to meet and perform with such a great entertainer In so many ways he transcended culture. He broke barriers, he changed radio formats! With music, he made it possible for people like Oprah Winfrey and Barack Obama to impact the mainstream world. His legacy is unparalleled Michael Jackson will never be forgotten.” ~ Usher via Twitter
It’s no secret where Usher found the inspiration for his signature moves. Check out a flashback video of he and Mike in an onstage dance battle below with a funny surprise guest:

June 27, 2009 @ 11:08 amIn 1979 the Destiny tour landed in Atlanta Georgia. I was all of 11 years old and my mother purchased tickets for me and four of my cousins to see Mike and his brothers at the Omni arena. I was bedazzled even then and knew that this guy was headed for greatness. Little did the world know that this young black man from Gary Indiana would affect and infect us all the way he did.
To the white commercial media. I think you guys are being totally insensitive to the Jackson family and you need to stop it! Thursday evening I was watching CNN or FOX I can’t remember but the reporter at the time said she blamed his father Joe and that Mikes mother was also to blame because she stood by and let Joe abuse them. Needless to say I was floored. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing! Then they went on to mention Mike being broke and who’s going to look after the children. The one reporter said “I’m concerned about the welfare of the children”. What?! *****! Y’all weren’t concerned b 4!
We cannot stand idly by and let these people devalue this Icon like this. If he was broke why aren’t you guys talking about the charity’s that he was involved in and the fact that he probably raised more money for them than he made for himself. This is a person that had such a positive impact on the entire world and lets keep Janet and the other Jackson family memebers in our hearts. Like Tyler Perry said on V-103 the other morning, it’s like loosing a family memeber.
I just want to mention one more thing. In the days before reality TV we had MTV which was the first station that showed nonstop music videos. MTV premiered in 1980 with a video called Hey Micki. For a long time they wouldn’t show videos for black artist. Barry Gordy spoke with the VP’s over at MTV and explained to them that there was a new solo artist that would make them wealthy beyond belief if they would show his video. They did and in 1982 MTV showed Michael Jacksons video to the song Billie Jean and from that point on it was none stop. VH-1 and BET soon followed. Videos from OFF THE WALL and THRILLER were flooding the TV. MTV saw how many viewers Mike was bringing them and the world of music video’s exploded. MTV shortly afterwards started showing video’s from other black artist such as Tina Turner,Prince, whitney and some of the others came later.
Thank you Michael Jackson for everything and we will keep you and your family in our prayers.
